Ginger & Basil Tea

September 25, 2016

A few days ago I went to a Tea Demo at a local community garden. There they created delicious, and healthy teas using ingredients right from their garden! Some ingredients were not new to most of mint and ginger, but I had never thought to throw basil or sage leaves in my homemade teas. I admit I was a bit skeptical, but after getting to sample a few of them I was sold! I decided to go home and attempt to make my home herbal tea using some of my own basil leaves.

All you will need for this is a small pot to heat up your water, a mason jar to pour your creation in, and the ingredients which you can find below.

 - teaspoon of ginger tea (or a few slices of ginger root)

- couple basil leaves (fresh or dried)

- juice from 1/4 of a lemon

- optional: teaspoon of honey

1. place ginger tea, basil leaves, and lemon juice in mason jar

2. pour hot water into the mason jar

3. If using honey, stir that in now.

4. If you want a hot tea, let it steep for a few minutes and you are all set. It is still pretty warm here in Raleigh so I was craving something cold. If an iced tea is what you're looking for, I would place it in the fridge for an hour or so.

Confession: I definitely forgot about my tea for a few days (!) I thought I had ruined it, but the flavor actually grew on me. Since I had let the ingredients steep so long, it had a pretty intense kick to it (hey ginger..). I plan to make it again soon and this time not forget about it!

Let me know if you end up trying it and what you think! Teas are very easy to alter to taste so I would love to hear some of your creations.
