Make Your Own Pizza Dough

Pizza is a big hit in this home. I don't think a week goes by where we don't have it..and confession, it's usually delivered to us (papa johns on speed dial). That is about to change though! I have finally decided to try making pizza dough from scratch. It is ridiculously easy to make. The main problem is planning ahead. The easiest solution for this is to make a double batch and keep one in the freezer until next time your craving pizza. You will have to remember to move it to the fridge the morning of, but otherwise with this easy recipe we all have no excuse not to make pizza at home. Plus, it's a fun way to make dinner. Add whatever toppings you would like and enjoy a meal at a fraction of the cost it would have been at you ordered it!


  • 3/4 cup warm water

  • 1 envelope of active dry yeast (or about 2 1/4 tsp of active yeast)

  • 2 cups all purpose flour, plus some for work surface

  • 1 tsp of sugar

  • 3/4 tsp of salt

  • 3 tablespoon of oil (usually olive oil is asked here, but I only had refined coconut oil so lets hope it works the same!)


  1. Pour warm water and mix in active dry yeast. Let stand for about 5 minutes.

  2. Brush bowl lightly with oil. Mix flour, sugar, and salt together.

  3. Add in yeast mixture and 3 tablespoons of oil; mix until dough forms into a sticky ball.

  4. Place dough on floured surface and knead dough until smooth. add extra flour to avoid sticking if necessary.

  5. Place in bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let sit and rise to about double its size, about an hour.

  6. Punch dough down.

That's it! Now you are ready to make your pizza or save it for later. Should be used within 24 hours if left in fridge, but can last for few months in the freezer.
