Enjoy This Traditional Swiss Dish, Fondue!

So this is about as Swiss as you can get. Most of you are probably familiar with Chocolate Fondue. The swiss in me will try not to roll her eyes..but Fondue isn't Fondue unless cheese is included. If you happen to have a Fondue burner set on hand (my guess will be you don't), then you can easily enjoy this dish on the table. If you don't, you might have to get a little creative because the Fondue should really be kept warm throughout the meal. Dig out a portable stove top (or eat around the stove?). Might seem a lot of work for a meal, but trust me..it is worth it! Enjoy this with a side salad to offset the pound of cheese you are about to consume.


  • 2 garlic cloves

  • ½ lb. of gruyere cheese, grated

  • ½ lb. of Swiss cheese, grated

  • (cheese can be bought already together at trader joes!)

  • Dry white wine

  • Corn starch

  • ½ shot of Kirsch (cherry liquor) – hard to find, but not impossible. Similar to Grappa. NOT SWEET LIQOUR

  • nutmeg, pepper


  1. Cut garlic in half

  2. Rub inside of over proof pan with the garlic. You can discard the garlic or leave it in the pan.

  3. Add the cheese, toss it with corn starch, add the wine

  4. Melt on low, stirring often

  5. Add the Kirsch at the end

  6. Season with pepper and a little bit of nutmeg

  7. Keep fondue on a heated surface, either on stove or on a fondue burner set.

  8. Serve with cubed bread that you dip into the cheese.

  9. Enjoy!
