Homemade Almond Milk
Almond milk is getting a lot of attention these days. It is a great alternative for those that are unable to drink dairy milk or those that are looking for a vegan option. However, if you don't check the ingredients at the store, you could be getting a lot of additional ingredients in your almond milk than you are aware of. There are great options (especially if you chose unsweetened versions) that keep the additives to a limit. Also, try to chose the unsweetened versions to avoid additional sugar consumption.
So what if you just can't find an almond milk brand that offers ingredients you feel comfortable with? Make your own! It is extremely simple, but it will only lasts 2-3days in the fridge so if you drink milk everyday, this will need to be become a multi-weekly chore. Again, you will see how quick it takes in my video below.
What are your thoughts on almond milk? I would love to hear what you guys drink at home and if you tried this recipe!
1 cup of almonds (presoaked the night before)
2 cups of water
Optional: add dates while blending for a sweeter version!
Soak almonds the night before.
Rinse soaked almonds and add to blender with 2 cups of water.
Blend for 2 minutes
Pour into a french press** and squeeze down to separate milk from the almond meal.
Keep in an airtight container and keep in fridge for 2-3 days.
**If you have a cheese cloth, feel free to use that instead of a french press. I don't have one so I used the next best thing I could think of!
