Cooking with Oregano
Oregano is an herb originating from the Mediterranean region. Dried oregano is a herb often found in recipes, but I was not aware of its nutritional properties until recently!
1 tsp of dried oregano contains up to 2% of daily recommendation for calcium, 3% of daily recommendation for iron, 1% of daily recommendation of magnesium, and 12% of daily recommendations for vitamin K. Yes, those are small percentages, but to think that all comes from 1 tsp of dried herb?! Even if you just occasionally add a teaspoon of oregano in your dishes, it is nice to know there is more to it than flavor.
So how can you use oregano in your everyday meals? Below are some suggestions:
Season meat or chicken with oregano - tip: mix in your burgers!
Mix in tomato sauces for pasta nights - or sprinkle on top.
Make dinner rolls with oregano mixed in.
Use Oregano instead of Basil to make pesto!
Add the herb to homemade salad dressings.
Top your pizzas with the fresh herb!
