Top 5 Ways To De-stress

The Semester is about half way through and the stress levels are quickly rising, at least for me! I know the end is near (in a good way), but it is sometimes hard to see it with deadlines and study sessions taking over your life. So what’s a girl to do? Relax! Even students are allowed days off, and I need the reminder more than anyone. Weekends are a relief for me because that means I have time to work on assignments, but everyone needs to take at least one day off. If we don’t make an effort to de-stress, we will only find ourselves burnt-out and that doesn’t help us at all.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to de-stress and relax:

  1. Bubble baths – hot water, bubbles, and some sweet fragrance from a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Oh, don’t forget a glass of sparkling wine. Too much? Ok, fine a beer will do too! :)

  2. Essential oil diffuser – smell is a powerful tool, so don’t underestimate the power of essential oil influencing your mood. If I am about to sit down and study, I try to run a diffuser nearby to help reduce some of my stress levels. At the very least, it makes my home smell good.

  3. Music – classical music is the best for when I need to study. It breaks up the silence (where otherwise I would just sing to myself), but also doesn’t distract me from what I am working on. If I am about to clean or get ready to go out, though, the party music comes on!

  4. Quiet Time on the Porch – with these cooler evenings, I love spending a little time on the porch with a refreshing beverage. It might be switching from a cool beer to a hot tea, but the feeling of relaxation stays the same.

  5. Go for a Walk – I manage to squeeze in walking in almost every post, but that’s how much walking means to me! The best walks are while listening to an interesting podcast!

Bonus: One word – candles! With the days getting shorter, there is nothing cozier than lighting up some candles, snuggling under a blanket (or 2), and a hot tea in your hand while enjoying a show on Netflix. Just thinking about it makes me feel less stressed!

I try to only use soy or beeswax candles to prevent breathing in unhealthy chemicals that are often hidden in standard paraffin candles.
