If you have been following me on Instagram you probably noticed that I spent part of my summer in Switzerland. For those that don't know, I was born there and try to go back whenever I can. I have been lucky enough to spend most of my summers there and it is one of my priorities in life to keep that tradition going. It is hard to explain to others what it is about Switzerland that tugs at my heart. Maybe its the fact that its vacation, I get to step away from the "real world" for a few weeks, or that I get to go home. All I know is that my summers there are so good for me and my overall well being.
Now on a random note - I am obsessed with swiss yogurt. When I am in the U.S I occasionally eat yogurt, but I rarely crave it. That all changes once I get to Switzerland. One of my favorite joys is going to the grocery store and grabbing all my favorite items. I immediately make my way to the yogurts and with childlike glee grab my favorite flavors. One of those is chocolate yogurt. Yes, chocolate. I never thought it weird until I realized that that isn't really a thing in the United States. To be honest I don't think I have ever looked for it nor tried it here in the states. It is such a wonderful flavor. A perfect sweet treat with a tang of sourness from the yogurt. It might not be sweet enough for most, but to me, it is the perfect afternoon snack on a summer day.
Can you tell food is a slight obsession for me? Haha.
Anyways, the reason I am rambling on about chocolate yogurt is that it is the key ingredient in this smoothie. This isn't a super sweet smoothie but I find it refreshing and satisfies my craving for chocolate. I did make this in Switzerland so the sugar content might be different in the U.S but feel free to add additional sweetener to yours if you find it needs it.
3/4 cup of chocolate yogurt
1/2 cup of milk
1 tbsp of cocoa powder (sweetened or unsweetened) - add more if you would like it thicker
optional - chocolate sprinkles
Blend all the ingredients (minus the sprinkles) together in a blender. If you would like a thicker smoothie, add more cocoa powder.
If you need more sweetness, add the other half of the banana or mix in your sweetener of choice (honey would work well!).
Pour the smoothie into two cups and decorate them with chocolate sprinkles.
If you try this recipe, let me know what you thought of it! Was it sweet enough for you? Are you a fan of the tanginess that the yogurt adds to it? I'd love to hear what you think in the comment section below.
